UPWC Members Take a Trip Down Memory Lane
On April 12, members of University Park Women’s Club were treated to a docent-guided tour of the Ringling College of Art and Design. For many of the 30 participants, it was their first time at a college since their own graduation. Everyone was wrapped up in the energy that abounds at Ringling College and amazed at the growth of this creative, cutting-edge jewel since its inception in 1931 as a certificate-awarding art school. Ringling College now confers a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 10 majors and Bachelor of Arts in 2 majors. Following lunch in the Hammond Commons student cafeteria, Volunteer Docents Leia Madden, Constance Goldman, Marilyn Rosengarden, and Student Ambassador Fay Han (Illustration, ’18) orchestrated a complete campus tour that began with the introduction of Mary, the resident ghost at the Keating Center. Today the picturesque 48-acre campus includes more than 110 buildings including the recently opened 24/7 state-of-the-art Alfred R. Goldstein Library and the Richard and Barbara Basch Visual Arts Center. And on the 3rd Floor of the Ulla Searing Student Center, alumni-signed posters line the Computer Animation and Game Art classroom and lab hallways for all to see. Everyone agreed how lucky we are that our city is home to over 1,400 student “creatives” from every corner of the world. Thank You, Ringling College!!
