Fall is fast approaching and many of our members are returning. So welcome all! This month I would like to highlight a few happenings at UPWC.
There’s a new energy and exciting times ahead for our designated 2016 charity. Quite simply, “It’s Elementary--Just For Girls Elementary.” We are happy to partner with this all-girls school encompassing Grades K through 5th.
It’s forward motion starting with the JFGE Fall Festival; one of our more “spirited” sponsorships and a truly special day for the girls! The Fall Festival - to be held on Halloween - incorporates educational exercises into fun Halloween themed activities all with the help of our member volunteers. We will read Halloween books to the children after which they will demonstrate their writing and comprehension skills. They will also participate in an art project which will include decorating foam pumpkins to be affixed to their writing project. What a great way to decorate the bulletin boards around school and show off their hard work at the same time.
And it wouldn't be Halloween without a treat! Each girl will receive a plastic pumpkin filled with books, school supplies and other items to take home. Thanks to all of you making this happen with your continued support and be sure to check the website in November for pictures.
Speaking of our charity and ways to support Just for Girls…
If you’re ready for an “Evening in Paradise” (and who isn’t?) you must plan to attend our Saturday, December 3rd Charity Event. Resort wear is the suggested attire for this “informal formal” fund-raising evening. How cool is that?? Join in on the silent auction for a new golf cart and dance the night away with Double Vision--the band that blew us away last year. An invitation will be mailed to all members mid-October at their UP address; however, advise Nancy Kopnisky of an alternate address, if necessary. Reservation forms for table seating will be on our website later in October. Proceeds for this event will be presented to our 2016 designated charity--Just For Girls Elementary.
Last, but not least, come celebrate Autumn at the Oaks Club on October 19th. Have a look into the life of socialite, Bertha Palmer re-enacted by Kate Holmes, Member of the Sarasota Historical Society while enjoying a beautiful lunch.
Looking forward to seeing you all real soon,
